Around 200 people, 120 adults and 77 children, including community groups, businesses, families, schools and organizations, joined forces for the 2019 Spring Clean Week activities in Saugeen Shores.

"Thank you to community partners," said Colleen Dostle from the Town of Saugeen Shores. Participants included the Girl Guides, Sparks and Pathfinders; various church groups, Saugeen Rail Trail volunteers, Marine Heritage Society, the Propeller Club, and Southampton Residents' Association.

Spring Clean Week was officially held from April 20 to 27 but some groups chose to do their clean up activities outside of that time frame including Southampton Rotary, a local Kindergarten class and a group from the Pea Pod, added Dostle.

"This year we invited builders to partake in the 20 minute clean up," she said. "Walker Homes and Dennison Homes took up the challenge," she said, and added that Walker Homes recruited high school volunteers to assist.

In an email to Saugeen Shores Hub, Walker Homes had this to say. "Walker Homes Ltd. and Snyder Developments would like to send a special thank you to the Sustainability Club students and their teacher Nancie Darlington Smith, from Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin. The students and teachers generously volunteered their time, with the selfless goal of helping to clean their community." Shelby Weel from Walkerton Homes added that a donation will be made to the Sustainability Club for their efforts from Walker Homes and Snyder Developments.
