Saugeen Shores Storm Pee Wee teams scored big December 13 raising over $10,000 for Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation's (SMHF) Light the Way campaign, in conjunction with 98 the Beach's 12 hour radiothon, Light the Way Day.

Storm Girls HL and Boys LL#2 Pee Wee teams joined forces at the Waterloo Street Neighbourhood Park in Port Elgin where they played a mixed teams road hockey game, asking for donations for the Light the Way campaign.

Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Don Matheson dropped the puck at the start of the game and the two teams showed off their skills to spectators in a fun and action packed game.

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray said the money they had raised was fantastic. “They did a lot of fundraising ahead of time, they brought cash in that day, envelopes, donations they got...we also had people coming in last night who gave donations for Light the Way in honour of Pee Wee hockey."

Murray said a final tally hasn't yet been calculated but as of last night the total was just over $10,000. “I'm sure we're going to have a few more payments trickling in the next few days so that figure may go up even a bit more," she said.

The hockey game was also part of the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup where the best team could win $100,000 for their charity of choice.
