Students from St Joseph's School in Port Elgin recently participated in the Port Elgin Legion Branch 340 Poster and Literary Competition November 3 to convey the importance of participating in Remembrance Day.

Categories included Essay and Poem as well as two Poster categories, one colour and one black and white.

In a submission from St Joseph's School, students from the senior art club submitted posters that illustrated what they understood about war with a relevancy to now and why we need to remember the past in order to impact the future.

Essays were also submitted and had to be 500 words with students enouraged to write about the meaning behind Remembrance Day.

Special congratulations to junior student Claire who received first place for her Poem, taking her to the next stage. Claire took inspiration from wondering about war and why and how it came to be.
