On October 9 an unknown person passed a fake $100 bill to a cashier at Walmart in Port Elgin. The crude replication went unnoticed and the suspect left the store with stolen property. The counterfeit bill was detected by a store accountant when depositing money into the bank.

In a Saugeen Shores Police media release, incidents of counterfeit bills have dropped drastically due to enhanced security features on the notes. The Saugeen Shores Police encourage people to be vigilant as the potential to be duped is always present.

There has not been any further reports of counterfeit bills since this occurrence.

On October 12 a woman was captured on video surveillance in a local business concealing a pair of winter boots and leaving the store making no attempt to pay.

Investigating officers reviewed the video footage and positively identified a 26 year old Port Elgin woman as the culprit. She was located a short time later and arrested for theft and released on a promise to appear in court.

On October 18 the same 26 year old woman was apprehended by Saugeen Shores Police on a warrant of arrest for failing to appear in court, stemming from two shoplifting incidents in July and August of this year. In these two occurrences the woman was observed on video surveillance stealing a quantity of food from a Port Elgin business. Investigating officers positively identified her after reviewing video footage.

The woman was not released and was held for a bail hearing.
