Years of heritage and industry was the focus of a recently unveiled historical plaque at Denny’s Dam in Southampton. The interpretive storyboard was put together by members of the Municipal Heritage Committee with Committee Chair, Vice-Deputy Mayor Diane Huber saying at an unveiling August 18 that “there’s a lot of activities that went on here and there is a lot of activity that still goes on here.”
Heritage Committee Member Bill Streeter, who provided a lot of the research for the storyboard, touted himself as a seventh generation Southampton’er and said that growing up Denny’s Dam was always a part of his life. “When you start delving into the history here at this site it is an enormously long, long history,” he said, adding that he was really happy that they could continue to tell the story through the plaque.
The plaque cited Denny’s Dam's past as the first spot in the area for electric power to be sourced, its importance in stopping Lamprey, a location for a timber and later iron bridge and a prime fishing area.
The plaque is also called an interpretative storyboard and highlights many uses of Denny’s Dam.

During the unveiling ceremony there were plenty of people fishing at the bottom of the dam.
