Following Council May 14, Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith said this would be his last term sitting as mayor in Council Chambers.
“I’ve been here a long time, 20 years in municipal politics,” said Smith, remarking that it was time for him to enjoy things a little more. “I spend a lot more time with my grandchildren now and it’s time to move on,” he said.
Smith credits municipal staff with any achievements that have happened during his time. “Any accomplishment that I had anything to do with has been a lot to do with the staff of this town, I mean I think we have fabulous staff and you know we’ve had some great councils with some great ideas but it’s the staff really that makes these things happen,” he said.
When asked what advice he had for anyone wanting to run for mayor and possibly one day being mayor, Smith said, “Know when to get in and when to get out.”
