Bruce County has purchased 254 High Street from St Paul’s Anglican Church in Southampton, which will add to Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s (BCM&CC) property portfolio permitting potential future expansion.
In a Bruce County media release, Warden Paul Eagleson said the property has strategic importance for the County. “We were very pleased to work with the Diocese of Huron and in particular St Paul’s Anglican Church, Warden Mr Doug Goar and member Mr Scott Saunders to secure these lands,” he said.
The mandate of the BCM&CC is to preserve and make available the documentary heritage of Bruce County. A potential expansion would ensure that the collective memory of the county would continue to grow.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor and Chair of BCM&CC Janice Jackson said, “After taking the necessary time to complete our due diligence the purchase of this land positions the Museum to take the next steps in the potential expansion planning process.”
“The congregation of St Paul’s Anglican Church supports the County’s vision to potentially expand the programs and services offered by the Museum. This was shown in their support to sell the land to the County,” said Church Warden Doug Goar.
