Bruce Power generated a donation worth $10,000 for Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation’s (SMHF) upcoming Gran Fondo which will take place August 19. The donation, made on February 2, makes Bruce Power a Platinum Sponsor for the fundraising event which will have one of the routes venture past the nuclear site.
Foundation staff and volunteers hope that the Gran Fondo succeeds in their fundraising goal of $150,000 that will go to help annual needs of the hospital.
SMHF Chair Jim Barbour said the community is coming together nicely in its support of Saugeen Shores’ first ever Gran Fondo. ”We’re anticipating that this will be good for the hospital but also the community at heart,” said Barbour February 2, adding that although it’s early on, there are over 130 participants signed up for the summer event. “I think as we get closer to the event we’ll have a lot more people enrolled.”
The SMHF is not only looking for cyclists to participate in the event’s 30, 70, 110 or 160 kilometre rides, they’re also in need of at least 100 volunteers to help make Gran Fondo a success with Foundation Executive Director Sally Kidson saying there will soon be a spot on the website to register as a volunteer.
