Saugeen Shores firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at the south end of town December 27 just before noon.

Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson and his firefighting team were once again called out in cold conditions to extinguish a blaze. “Numerous 9-1-1 calls were received this morning at 11:56 a.m.,” said Eagleson, indicating a fire had started at the fence line between Aunt Mabel’s Country Kitchen & Motel and the Town’s Saugeen Township works yard.
Eagleson added that there was no early knowledge as to the cause of the fire which quickly took hold. All units and both departments of Saugeen Shores Fire Department were on the scene quickly fighting the fire from several directions as the north wind fanned the flames and smoke into a strong fire. In order to supply water for the firefighters Highway 21 was blocked for some time.
The fire quickly took hold of the storage structure located at a fence line between Aunt Mabel’s Country Kitchen & Motel and the Town’s Saugeen Township works yard.
Firefighters came at the fire from all angles in an attempt to put it out.
A strong north wind fanned the flames and smoke.
Highway 21 was blocked for a time while firefighters fought the blaze December 27.
At the time of publishing the cause of the fire remained unknown.
