For the third year in a row Port Elgin’s Carey Optical raised money for the Liv-A-Little Foundation through purchases of prescription glasses during the month of September.
Owners Paul and Lorie Carey donated 10 percent from every new pair of RX glasses ordered in September to the Foundation while their benevolent customers helped surpass the 2016 amount by donating to the cause as they stopped in to get their glasses adjusted.
The total donated was $2,144.
Erin Little is President of the Liv-A-Little Foundation and mother to Olivia Little who faces the daily challenges that go along with Cystinosis, a genetic disease that afflicts just 75 children in Canada. Erin said that Paul and Lorie Carey have been there for the Littles ever since Olivia was first diagnosed. “They have always been good to us since the beginning... they’ve supported us,” she said November 18.
“We’re grateful for them taking the time and effort and raising awareness and funds for us,” said Erin, adding that the Careys have been like family.
