An exact sized replica of the Magdala Stone will be coming to Saugeen Shores all the way from Israel and will be at SouthPort Pentecostal Church for their Sunday Service on Sunday, September 17.
“This is a rare opportunity to get an up close look at some ancient Jewish history,” said Pastor David Baker. “The Magdala stone has never been to Canada before and we are honoured to host it in Saugeen Shores during its first journey to Canada. It is a small piece of the Holy Land right here in our own community. Very special opportunity.”
The Magdala stone replica will be at SouthPort Pentecostal Church on Sunday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. Jeff Futers from Milton based First Century Foundations will be providing a historical teaching surrounding the Magdela Stone and its significance to Jewish and Christian traditions. A opportunity for photos will also be provided.
Discovered in 2009 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. The stone is considered the most significant discovery related to the Second Temple. The front of the stone depicts the oldest carved image of the Second Temple’s seven-branched menorah ever found. The stone and the synagogue and village it was found in date to the 1st Century, exactly the time of Jesus. Inscriptions on coins found there indicate the village hadn’t been inhabited since 68 AD (CE).
Magdala is the home of Mary Magdalene, making it an almost certainty that Jesus would have visited there and been in the synagogue. For more information visit magdala.org or watch the video below.
