An epic 100 kilometre fundraising journey is gearing up for Saturday, June 10, beginning at Port Elgin United Church, looping through Shallow Lake, Springmount, Kilsyth, Tara and finally back to Port Elgin.

The seventh annual Tour for Teens cycling event run by Southwestern Ontario Youth for Christ (YFC) has made its way to Port Elgin for the first time, other distances include a 50 kilometre route to Sauble Christian Fellowship and a shorter 25 kilometre route. Organizer Cory Longmire of YFC Unlimited Saugeen Shores said one can register or sponsor a ride by going to swoyfc.com/tour-for-teens.

Longmire said YFC Youth Unlimited Saugeen Shores is committed to helping youth develop holistically by offering programs and developing relationships that nurture the whole person – physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Longmire said proceeds from the ride will benefit different youth events in Saugeen Shores. “I plan different events for teens in the community. I meet with teens one on one for coffees or lunch. I run a board game club every Tuesday at lunch. So I do a few different things like that,” said Longmire, who said he would like to start new activities. “Some of the things we are looking at maybe doing in the near future is a concert, a mission trip and opening a drop-in centre in Port Elgin.”

All riders in the event receive a t-shirt. Individuals do need to raise a minimum of $300 to participate and riders who raise $1,000 or more will receive accolades and a $50 Tim Hortons gift card.
