Truck beds and trailers were filled with trees as 248 were sold during the Saugeen Shores Tree Sale May 6. The collaborative effort between Trees for Saugeen, a branch of SauGREEN for the Environment Inc., Town of Saugeen Shores, the Saugeen Shores Get Outdoors Youth Club, Everest Trees as well as assistance from Roger Carson showcased a true love of nature on a wet and rainy Saturday morning.

The subsidized program is assisted with funding from the Town of Saugeen Shores and Bruce Power. President of Trees for Saugeen, Tracy Lambert, said that every year gets better and better and that the sale has been sold out six times since its inception in 2010.

“It’s a lot of fun and every year it gets better and better... it feels good because we work with the youth,” said Lambert. The Saugeen Shores Get Outdoors Youth Club uses the tree sale as their yearly fundraiser. On May 6 the youth club delivered and planted 82 trees by a donation of $20 throughout Saugeen Shores. In 2016 the money raised from the sale was donated by the club to help those impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfires.

Everest Nursery, the only regional calliper tree grower according to Lambert, has been supplying the trees since 2010. Everest Nursery brought the 6 to 10 foot trees by truck from their new Port Elgin location on Highway 21, the former Shoreline Stone location.

The Saugeen Shores Tree Sale was a sold out event with 248 trees finding new homes.

Everest Nursery supplied the trees for the subsidized program. With funds from Bruce Power, Town of Saugeen Shores and the recipient each paying a third of the cost per tree.
