The Chantry Island Cham-bettes doled out over $15,000 to two local projects on March 7 during their March meeting at the Queen’s Bar and Grill.
The money came from proceeds of their Christmas Home Tour, where six homes were dressed up and on display for the annual event this past November.
One of the homes in the tour was the “Hospital House”, the home of Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) Executive Director Sally Kidson and Bruce Durrer, both of whom were on-hand with SMHF Chair Jonna Ebel to accept $10,500 on behalf go the Foundation. The Cham-bettes total contribution to the hospital now surpasses $100,000, with just over $60,000 going towards the new emergency room and laboratory, which will garner the Chantry Island Cham-bettes a room dedication inside the newly constructed facility.
Earlier in the night the Cham-bettes donated $5,000 to the Southampton Rotary Club for its upcoming Splash Pad project. The Southampton Rotary Club plans to build the Splash Pad in Jubilee Park, the opening of which is planned for the end of July to coincide with the annual Marine Heritage Festival.
The 2016 Chantry Island Chamb-bettes Christmas Home Tour raised over $18,000 in money raised, the highest in the tour’s history. During their February meeting the group donated a portion of the proceeds to members of Caitlyn Cobean’s Community Crusaders, who also decorated a home on the tour.
