Messages of love, condolence and action will be written during a letter writing campaign called Letters from Saugeen Shores, taking place at Ashanti Coffee, 676 Goderich Street in Port Elgin, February 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The nonpartisan event is hosted by two Saugeen Shores friends who have had enough of watching what’s going on in the world and not being able to do anything about it. From ongoing religious persecution to seemingly endless 'executive orders' to the brutal murder of six Muslims exercising their right of religious freedom in Quebec January 29.

Addresses and stationary will be available for those wishing to write letters of action that will be sent to Huron-Bruce Member of Parliament Ben Lobb, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Ahmed Hussen and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; or those who wish to send letters of love and support that will be sent onto the Islamic Centre in Quebec.

As well, pre-written letters will be available for people to sign.

The letters will be asking politicians to denounce a recent immigration ban signed by US President Donald Trump, seen by many as discriminatory and contrary to Canadian values. It will also ask leaders to take immediate steps to offer refuge and protection to those already screened and cleared for admission into the US; as well as raising levels of overseas refugees admissible into Canada in 2017.

Contributions to postage costs will be appreciated but are by no means necessary. "Your words matter more than money."

Organizers say this event is rooted in love and denounces hate and hate-based fear.
