Many came out to celebrate Southampton’s Tree Lighting ceremony on a misty evening November 25, which coincided with the town’s annual shopping night, Southampton Sparkles.

The newly decorated tree was lit by Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith with the help of a few youngsters who flipped the enormous switch.

The night’s Master of Ceremonies was radio host Brian Longmire, and the dancers from the Celtic Dance Academy braved the wet conditions and performed a few routines.

Before the tree was lit Mayor Smith took the time to remind all in attendance about the spirit of the season, and the true meaning of Christmas.

Hot chocolate was provided by the Southampton BIA, and members of the Chantry Singers closed the evening with a few seasonal songs.
