Ashanti Coffee in downtown Port Elgin will be offering up some unique cupcakes and lattes this week, all served in the name of a good cause.
“We are doing a week-long fundraiser for the Liv-A-Little Foundation in hopes of raising money for Cystinosis,” said Ashanti's Jamieson Lamb.
The Liv-A-Little Foundation was formed by Saugeen Shores couple Chad and Erin Little after their oldest daughter Olivia was diagnosed with Cystinosis at just 18 months of age. The primary goal of the foundation is to educate and find a cure for Cystinosis, a rare genetic disease through which the cells of the body crystallize and attack the entire body, eyes and kidneys first.
In keeping with the Liv-A-Little Foundation's colour, Ashanti will be serving Purple Lavender Lattes and Purple Frosted Cupcakes all week long, beginning on Monday, October 17 through to Sunday, October 23 with all proceeds going to the foundation to help fund the advancement of treatment for Cystinosis.
Lamb who, along with his partner, Bethany Warder, opened Port Elgin’s Ashanti Coffee in June this year, said that Liv-A-Little was something that the community had come together to be a part of and wanting to be part of the community themselves, decided to help and show their support.
Liv-A-Little Foundation President Erin Little said that Ashanti had approached them with the idea. “Jamieson and Beth wanted to do this wonderful thing,” she said October 17, having brought her two daughters, Olivia and Harper, to the coffee shop to try the new cupcakes, which got a thumbs up from the girls.
