Finding your way in a new community, let alone a new country can be intimidating. The Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) is a national charity that delivers programs and special projects that inspire Canadians to be inclusive, create opportunities to connect, and encourage active citizenship.

One such program is the Cultural Access Pass (CAP) which gives people who are new to Canada opportunities to learn more about their new home with special offers to visit cultural attractions for free and receive travel discounts during their first year of citizenship.

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is pleased to become a part of this valuable program which includes attractions such as the Science Centre, the Gardiner Museum, the Grand Theatre and over 1,200 more cultural attractions across Canada. The Cultural Access Pass is a welcome gift to those new to Canada allowing them to explore Canada’s rich cultural history, famous artworks, and amazing parks.

A new Canadian citizen may register for CAP if they received their citizenship in the last 365 days. The pass expires on the one-year anniversary of their citizenship ceremony. As a participant in this program the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre will accept passes and also act as a CAP pick up location for new registrants. Pass holders receive free admission to CAP attractions, including Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, for themselves and up to four dependent children under 18 years of age.

“This program offers an excellent way to welcome new Canadian citizens to Bruce County, inviting them to discover more about the history of the county and engage in the community by learning about all the Museum has to offer including programs, special events, networking and volunteer opportunities,” said Cathy McGirr, Director of Museum & Cultural Services, County of Bruce.

“We’re thrilled that CAP members will be able to explore the rich local history of Bruce County through the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre,” said Yasmine Mohamed, Manager of the ICC’s Cultural Access Pass. “Through this partnership, new citizens in Bruce County and visiting the area will be able to pick up their Cultural Access Pass, and enjoy this cultural treasure to the fullest.”
