The annual Labour Day Parade, organized by Unifor retirees and the Grey Bruce Labour Council, took place on Monday, September 5.The route took participating unions from the Port Elgin Home Hardware location and south down Goderich Street through downtown Port Elgin.
Led by the McLaren Pipe and Drum Band from Wiarton, over 1,000 union workers walked for fairness and equality with the Teeswater Highlanders Pipe Band and the Loch Lomond Pipe and Drum Band marching with the workers.
People watched the parade from one end to the other while candy, pencils and bubbles were handed out along the parade route.The parade was followed by a barbecue at Unifor Family Education Centre (formerly CAW).
Southampton summer residents Emily and Henry enjoy their candy that was passed out at the annual Labour Day Parade.
Fifth grader Maeve Evans detached her bicycle basket to keep all her parade goodies together. The trove of pencils and pens handed out will certainly help her during the school year.

Organized by Unifor retirees and the Grey Bruce Labour Council, the Labour Day parade headed down Goderich Street, September 5. Following the parade Unifor hosted a free, open-to-everyone party, which included a barbecue, games and face painting.
