canoe560On Tuesday, July 19, two females and one male tipped their canoe on the Saugeen River. They had launched from Saugeen River Access point #14 (Bruce Road 3) at approximately 8 p.m. and had intended to end their trip at Denny’s Dam. While enroute their vessel tipped causing the occupants, along with their belongings, to enter the water. They were all able to get to safety on one of the islands and called 9-1-1.

From a July 20 Saugeen Shores Police Service media release, at 10:06 p.m. Saugeen Shores Police, Saugeen Shores Fire Department, the Ontario Provincial Police and Bruce County EMS were all dispatched. Through collaborative effort the three paddlers were located a short distance away from Denny’s Dam, were extracted by Saugeen Shores Fire Department and medically cleared by EMS with no significant injuries.

The paddlers were wearing their lifejackets to which police and fire credit their being able to make it to safety.
