A total of 44 bicycles and 12 miscellaneous items were up for auction at the annual Saugeen Shores Police Service’s Bike Auction, May 28.

The number of bikes on offer this year was approximately 50 percent lower than in 2015.

Saugeen Shores Police Sergeant Andy Evans said the lower number was due to there not being as many bikes being stolen or lost around the area.

Auctioneer Les Ribey exclaimed that the “assortment of bikes was good this year,” to a crowd of 20 plus. Purchasing four of the first five bikes, Phil Sherriff said that he had planned to give the bikes to his kids, to ride around their cottage.

There were a few bidding wars with some bikes going for over $100, and others going for as little as $2.

In total, the auction raised $1,300. Funds raised go to off-set the costs of police equipment as directed by the Police Services Board.
