The Port Elgin Library is inviting anyone new to Saugeen Shores to attend its inaugural Newcomer Night, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19.

The library will play host to many community services who will be in attendance to answer any questions people may have.

Branch Services and Program Coordinator for the Newcomer Night, Nancy Kuhl said that the idea came from thinking about people new to Canada, coming to communities in Bruce County, not only the Syrian refugees but other families new to the area; and what the library could do to help.

“So often we hear when people register for a library card that they are new to town and they often will ask questions about the community, where to find services and information, but mostly are looking for people to talk with. Hopefully at this event, newcomers can begin to make connections in the community,” Kuhl said May 17.

This event is free for all ages. The groups that will be in attendance are: Municipality of Saugeen Shores, Saugeen Shores Chamber Of Commerce, Saugeen Shores Police Services, Bruce County Tourism, Bruce County Social Services, Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, Keystone Family Services and Ontario Early Years, Chantry Centre, Adult Learning Centre, Georgian College, Lake Huron Learning, VPI Employment Services, Grey Bruce Public Health, Contact North, Community Connection 211 and Recreational Respite.
