The body found off the shores of MacGregor Point Provincial Park Monday has been confirmed to be that of Peter James “Jim” Armstrong.

Armstrong, age 53 from Toronto, went missing from a relative’s home in Southampton on March 9 and extensive search efforts, including a helicopter, an unmanned drone, boat and divers, K-9 and of course officers on the ground followed by the Saugeen Shores Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit and Emergency Response Team.

From a May 4 Saugeen Shores Police media release, “On May 2 2016 at 1:31 pm hikers walking along the Lake Huron shoreline came across a body just off shore in the water. The discovery was at the south end of MacGregor Point Provincial Park in Saugeen Township. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Saugeen Shores Fire Service and the Saugeen Shores Police Service removed the body from the water.”

The body was taken to London, an autopsy was conducted and the body was identified as Armstrong. No foul play is suspected. The cause of death will be determined with the results of toxicology being conducted by the coroner’s office.

Dan Rivett, Saugeen Shores Chief of Police, said that next of kin has been notified. “I am confident our community will continue to show its support to the family and friends of Jim Armstrong."
