svca floodingThe Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) is extending its Flood Watch condition to Saturday, April 2, 11 a.m.

Although river and stream levels have been on the decline since Tuesday, significant rain is forecast for Wednesday night and into Thursday.

From a March 30 media release, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Surface Water Monitoring Centre is calling for 25 to 40 millimetres, including isolated thunderstorms, with further rain to expected.

With watercourses still flowing at elevated levels due to the precipitation last Monday, the rain will produce additional run off and cause water levels to rise again.

If rainfall is as predicted, then flooding is probable in the traditional low lying flood plain areas. Again, SVCA suggests municipal staff continue to monitor typical problem areas and roads.

Continuing high water levels are a safety risk and the public is still advised to stay away from all watercourses.

Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority will continue to closely monitor river flow and weather conditions. This message is in effect until Saturday, April 2, 11 a.m. unless a further message is issued.
