The Stewart family has created a gofundme page in hopes of raising funds after losing their home to fire on March 11. Andy Stewart works for the Saugeen Shores Police Service and was on shift at the time.
At 3 a.m. on March 11, Sharon Stewart woke to a house full of smoke and ran to wake Kristin. They managed to get out of their house safely along with three of their pets. A cat, a chinchilla and a snake are safe while three dogs, Cheeko, Peanut and Jada along with a second cat, Yogi, could not be found.
From the Stewarts’ gofundme page, the home is destroyed and the family is reaching out to the community for help.
As of 8 a.m. Saturday, March 12, the gofundme page had generated $3,420. You can donate to the Stewart family through their page HERE.
Editor's note: Later Saturday morning, Destinations Unlimited announced that they will be accepting cash donations on behalf of the Stewart family at their Port Elgin location, 5101 Highway 21.
As of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the total donated through the gofundme page had exceeded $5,500.
