Stolen vehicle; property arrests: Saugeen Shores Police

SS Police3 fullOn January 22, Saugeen Shores Police arrested three persons for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

In a Saugeen Shores Police Service press release, on January 20, a 25 year old male from Barrie stole a 2012 Chevrolet Orlando that had been left running with the keys in the ignition while the owner went into the Post Office in Dundalk. A second male adult, 23 years old from Hanover is believed to have been in the area and the two were believed to be involved in several other incidents throughout surrounding counties as well as in London.

On January 21, the male adults stole license plates from a vehicle in Owen Sound and attached them to the stolen vehicle.

On January 22, the two male adults were joined by a 17 year old female youth from Kincardine. The three attended the Walmart in Port Elgin where a number of items were stolen including two laptop computers. The three were then involved in a collision on a side road in Saugeen Township where they abandoned the stolen vehicle and hitch-hiked into Southampton. The three accused attempted to rent a room at a motel but were not successful.

Police then received a report from a citizen about the vehicle collision. Officers quickly put the pieces of the puzzle together and located the suspects walking toward another motel in Southampton. They were arrested and held for a bail hearing on multiple charges.

The 25 year old male is charged with: Theft of a motor vehicle; Dangerous Driving; Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (motor vehicle); Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (3 counts); Possession of a credit card; Fail to comply with recognizance (2 counts); Possession of a controlled substance – Schedule I

The 23 year old male is charged with: Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (motor vehicle); Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (3 counts); Possession of a stolen credit card; Fail to comply with recognizance; Possession of a controlled substance – Schedule I

The 17 year old female youth is charged with: Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (motor vehicle); Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (3 counts); Possession of a stolen credit card; Possession of a controlled substance – Schedule I

Thanks to the information received from concerned citizens in our community these three were arrested and held for a bail hearing Monday, January 25 in Walkerton.

The 25 year old male had arrest warrants issued by Halifax Police and Grey County OPP for similar offences including vehicle thefts.
