Arlington fire and a hate crime investigation

A 20 year old Saugeen Shores man was arrested on October 3 for Mischief and Breach of Probation in relation to an incident in July. Sometime overnight on July 31 someone pinned two pieces of paper containing what is believed to be satanic symbols to a front door of a residence in Port Elgin. Police were able to obtain fingerprints and DNA from the paper as well as the thread used to stitch the pages together. Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact police at 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Dollarama on the afternoon of October 4. A licence plate was obtained and a 64 year old Saugeen Shores man was located and was trespassed from the store.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated male on a bicycle near the New Fairway park on the afternoon of October 3. A 34 year old Saugeen Shores male was found to be intoxicated and could not care for himself. He was in violation of conditions of a previous release on other charges and was arrested. He was later released and turned over to his parents.

On October 1 at 5:45pm, a white Ford F250 with a trailer containing six ATVs pulled up to the gas bar at the Independent Grocer. The ATVs were filled up and three males left without paying. No licence plate was obtained. Police are investigating.

At 10:35pm on September 30, police responded to the Arlington Apartments at 625 Goderich Street in Port Elgin to a report of the smoke alarm sounding at a second floor apartment. The complainant felt the occupant was in the apartment because her vehicle was in the parking lot. The Saugeen Shores Fire Service was called. The officers could detect the odour of smoke through the door. Police kicked the door in and once the door opened the heavy smoke from the apartment filled the hallway and set off the main fire alarm for the apartment building. Officers located a burning pan on the stove and took measures to extinguish the fire. A 56 year old woman was found unresponsive but breathing. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was admitted for smoke inhalation. One of the officers was also taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and released. The actions of the complainant and the police officers clearly saved the life of this woman.

At 4:11 am on September 30, police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence where the responsible parties were believed to still be inside. The residence was searched and no one was found but four small marijuana plants that were hanging to dry were located, seized and destroyed. No charges, no break and enter.

On September 28 a 21 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested on outstanding warrants for Theft Under and Possession of Stolen Property.

At 6:28 pm on September 28, police responded to a gas drive off at the Petro Can gas bar in Port Elgin. A licence plate number was acquired and the bill was paid.
