The student council of Saugeen District Secondary School hosted their annual barbecue on Friday, September 11 to welcome the new Grade 9 students to the school.
The student council, which consists of 15 mostly Grade 12 students, barbecued hamburgers and served the Grade 9s their lunch along with a drink.
Stephanie Cassolato-Cameron, teacher advisor for the SDSS student council explained that it was all free for the new students. The money used to purchase the food and drink coming from last year's fund-raising. “This is a tradition. We do this every year. The first Friday of the year, all the Grade 9s get a free lunch on the student council.”
There are 160 Grade 9 students at SDSS this year, which is up about 70 from the previous year.
