The student of École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESC) took part in the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser on a beautiful day May 6. The pledge forms are still being collected but in previous years the school has raised between $5,000 and $6,000.
Money raised from Jump Rope for Heart goes to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the funds are used to further vital research for those affected with heart conditions.
The jump rope rhyme, “Whatcha going to wear on your wedding day,” was the schoolyard favourite for the grade 4 students at EPESC.
Grade 4 student, Riley Seaman, was involved in a giant rope that was three long ropes tied together, and tried to organize her fellow classmates to jump in with her at the same time. “I like skipping outside, it’s going really good. We’re trying to jump in the large rope, but I keep on getting caught in it,” Seaman said.
Her friend Sarah Harris raised $90 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation by asking her parents and neighbours and even asked for donations online. She has been skipping for over six years and her favourite skipping move is The Cougar. “It’s been fun to skip with a whole bunch of my friends,” said Harris.
Most of the grade 4 students agreed that Jump Rope for Heart allowed them to exercise outside, and that it was “fun”.
“We’re trying to raise money to help people stay alive,” said Chris Brennan. “I did doubles, and I did twists and turns, but I like skipping solo the best.”
Abby Clarke enjoyed the exercise as part of the school’s fundraiser, May 6.
After waiting patiently, Aamina Sirdar, got the chance to jump during ÉPESC’s Jump Rope for Heart, May 6.
