Delicious vegan and healthy delights will once again be served at the Pea Pod when it opens its doors in its new Port Elgin location March 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Business partners Jennifer Maas and Doris Kun opened the Pea Pod in February of 2016 at the Mercer House in Southampton after the duo felt a need in the community for healthy choices in sustenance.

They closed their Southampton location in December due to the building being sold and Kun said their opening day in Port Elgin has been “a long time coming” as both have been working full-time getting the new and expanded location ready. However, Kun admitted that they will miss the Mercer House and all it had to offer, especially the front yard.

With the new spot comes new tasty foods with the Pea Pod now offering over 30 smoothies, juices, a breakfast menu and even a poutine made out of sweet potato fries, vegan gravy and cheese.

In the coming weeks and months the Pea Pod will work toward expanding their daily hours past 3 p.m. and eventually open into the dinner hours Thursday through Saturday.

Kun and Maas have hired more staff, will continue their Meatless Monday events and will now have food and display items ready for purchase.

The exterior of their new location (formerly Pharmasave Home Health & Mobility, 671 Goderich Street) still has work to be done so Kun said to not “judge a book by its cover” and that a grand opening event will be held in the spring when work is completely finished.
