The Saugeen Shores community and skating fans came in droves to witness 18 teams battle it out for the second Battle of the Blades (BOB) event, held at the Plex in Port Elgin April 20.
Organized by the Saugeen Shores Skating Club and the Caitlyn Cobean Community Crusaders (CCCC), the event filled the arena to capacity and by the end of intermission had raised over $10,000 in donations, funds to go in support of CCCC, a community group dedicated to supporting families whose children are fighting health battles in Grey and Bruce counties, and the Saugeen Shores Skating Club.
Caitlyn Cobean, who passed away in 2008 after battling a deadly brain tumour, was memorialized in many ways throughout the evening with a heartfelt introduction by her mother Rona Cobean, a picture montage, and her fellow hockey teammates performing a surprise finale routine to the Spice Girls.
