Christmas cheer and spirit was abundant during the eighth annual Ugly Christmas Family Party held at the Queen’s Bar & Grill December 17. The party doubled as a fund raiser and raised approximately $4,000 for the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey and second stage housing.
Organizer Sarah Trelford got many Saugeen Shores businesses involved including Metta Wave, Trends Hair Salon, the Pea Pod and Martin’s Bicycle Shop and asked for their help fundraising throughout the month of December resulting in $2,000 being raised prior to the event.
Trelford said that this year she decided to change the demographic of the event, which has traditionally taken place during the evening at either Port Elgin’s Queens Bar & Grill or Southampton’s Walker House, and turn it into a family orientated event. “All my friends have kids and I was like why not facilitate that,” she said, adding that she could get all of them involved.
Trelford said all proceeds would be used to purchase gift cards and then distributed evenly between shelter services and second stage housing.
