The second annual Trick or Treating in the Corn Maze at Smiths’ Apples and Farm Market saw approximately 400 attendees making their way to tasty treats with children dressed up and strutting their stuff in their Halloween best.

The fundraising event hosted by Caitlyn Cobean's Community Crusaders (CCCC) raised over $2,200 with proceeds going towards the Tara Boom Houston Children’s Foundation, helping to improve the lives of families whose children have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses in Southwestern Ontario include Grey and Bruce counties.

One of the first families to make it through the Corn Maze was the Natale family from Williamsford who received support from CCCC in 2016. Their son Noah, now 3 years old, was hospitalized with a heart condition, and CCCC alleviated some pressures that arose as a result. Noah who dressed as Spiderman was excited to enter the maze and used his super powers to jump off hay bales before his family entered the maze.

Participants brave enough to enter the maze were met inside with Crusaders handing out candy. Smiths’ owner Katie Lutz said that the farm loves working with CCCC as well as hosting Roar by Rex’s Kristen Holloway who made fun crafts with kids.

This Trick or Treat event is the last of the season for the apple farm as they close October 31 until next year. “We love being a part of this community,” said Lutz. “We’re really enjoying it... I love seeing happy people and if there’s one thing I’ll say, I love seeing people dressed up, but I also love seeing people participate whether they have a costume or not.”
