Poutine connoisseurs lined up at Queen's Bar and Grill 2015 Poutinefest August 15. This year’s event, hosted by the Port Elgin BIA, will take place on Canada Day, July 1 with funds raised going toward downtown beautification.
The true Canadian taste test brought to you by the Port Elgin BIA will place July 1 in downtown Port Elgin where five establishments, each with their own take on poutine, will serve up the curds on Canada Day from 12 to 3 p.m.
Tickets will be $10 each, children under 5 free, and will be sold at Coulter Parkette, where an abundance of picnic tables will be available for dining.
The Queen’s Bar & Grill, Chester’s Bar & Grill, Allan’s Fireside Grill, The Wismer House and the Hog’s Troth food truck are all taking part in the fun, with members of rugby teams Bruce County Barbarians and Banshees volunteering their efforts to hydrate the poutine aficionados at Coulter Parkette.
The downtown park, which is expected to be a hub of activity, will also play host to a free inflatable castle from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., face painting, a ceremonial cake cutting at noon with Smiths’ Apple Farm selling ice cream and cider.
The sticky fingers will need to keep off the Kin Club’s Giant Canadian Flag that throughout the months of May and June has been signed by many Saugeen Shores residents.
The flag will leave Coulter Parkette at noon, when it will be marched along Green Street joined by its own Colour Guard and local dignitaries, to Stafford Street where it will board the S.S. Trolly and make its way to the Southampton Coliseum then down High Street at 2 p.m.
