With Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s (BCM&CC) latest interactive exhibit, Chagall for Children, visitors will learn that artists come in all sizes.
The exhibit will be open to the public until September 5 and features reproductions of over a dozen Marc Chagall masterpieces. Chagall, born in the late 1800s, was a Russian-born French painter. Each piece is accompanied by an interactive audio recording with information about the piece as well as hands-on elements that allow children to explore their own creativity.
“Chagall was a whimsical artist, and young children will immediately pick up on the fanciful and unusual aspects of his work,” said BCM&CC Director, Cathy McGirr. “He really appeals to children’s senses of wonder and fantasy.”
The hands-on activities that support and accompany the art are as varied as Chagall’s works. For example, a fabric rendition of Chagall’s “The Rooster” lets children rearrange the bird’s colorful tail feathers.
At different stations throughout the exhibit, guests can create mosaics, weave tapestries, use touch screens to digitally alter Chagall’s works. They’ll be able to conduct symphonies and, through the magic of video, insert themselves into one his paintings. After exploring all the artwork, the Museum offers a reading nook stocked with children’s books about Chagall’s life and work.
This unique exhibit was created by Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, Glenview, Illinois and is proudly presented by Ontario Power Generation.
