More than 40 pieces of art are being showcased in the Bruce Gallery at the Bruce County of Bruce Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) now through September 5. The new exhibit, “My Bruce County Youth Art Show”, is now open to the public, following an official opening May 19 and features pieces by Bruce County students in grades 6 through 8. From a May 20 media release, each piece represents, through artistic expression, what Bruce County means to them.
“There are so many talented artists in the county and this exhibit was designed to focus on our youth. We are extremely pleased to be able to showcase their work on what their home means to them through artistic impression,” said BCM&CC Director, Cathy McGirr. “Special thanks to the Southampton Art School Director Darlene McConnachie, Joanne Sturgeon and Sharon Barfoot, for their efforts in the collaboration of producing our first show of this kind,” McGirr continued.
“The Southampton Art School was very pleased to partner with the BCM&CC to showcase the talents of our local youth in the new exhibit “My Bruce County,” said Southampton Art School Director Darlene McConnachie. “It is such a pleasure to see the skills of our younger generation on display and to honour those talents.” She continued, “Two of our local artists, Sharon Barfoot, an abstract artist and Jo Ann Sturgeon who paints in watercolour and acrylics, were very generous in donating their time to help us jury and select the winning entries for the exhibition. Thank you to everyone who has done such an amazing job to put this exhibit together.”
Visitors to the Museum are encouraged to cast a ballot for a People’s Choice Award, to be issued and announced during the last week of August.
