The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s (BCM&CC) 8th annual wine tasting “Burgundy and Beyond”, sponsored by Meridian Credit Union, allowed attendees taste buds to take a tour, May 12.

“We’re traveling around the world this time,” said Christine Schmidt, one of the event organizers, adding that this year’s focus is not just on the presenter, Vineland Estates, who provided two wines for the tasting, including the ‘Welcome’ wine; but also highlighted five countries, including Canada’s Niagara region, with a great history in wine making.

Dave Gimbel of Vineland Estates, told the crowd that he wanted to do something different for this particular wine tasting.

“The wines that we’re tasting tonight are from the five regions that I think are quite popular,” Gimbel stated.

“I took a look at the world as a whole. When you take a look at it you can pretty much grow grapes anywhere now, except for Antarctica. But going back in history some of the areas have flawless pedigree, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.”

Bill Hodgkins, owner of Southampton’s Elk & Finch, plated delicious looking pairings to go along with the wines being tasted.
