Enter a magical world of knights and jousting, musical minstrels and colourful villagers of the medieval era at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre. Often called the “Middle Ages” or “Dark Ages”, the medieval era began just before 500 A.D. following a great loss of power throughout Europe by the Roman Emperor. Although a time of great unrest, poverty for most and devastating diseases, the Middle Ages was also a time of technological and agricultural innovations.
On Saturday, April 16, a local branch of The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) will provide an enlightening and entertaining day, for all ages, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The SCA is an international Living History group recreating and enjoying the arts and skills of medieval European cultures.
Kids will get a chance to relive medieval life through role play and costumes, and with the help of knowledgeable demonstrators, create a knight’s helmet or lady’s hair garland.
Families will have an opportunity to discover the many tools that were used for knitting, sewing, helmet and chainmail making, along with leather making. And mock battles will take place, showcasing the strength needed for handling broad and fencing swords
The local SCA branch is called the “Barony of Ramshaven”, with Baron Penda and Baroness Sibylla of Ramshaven (Mike and Tamara Pasley of Tiverton) overseeing the day's events.
