Snowshoeing, weaving, rope making and Arctic Sled Dogs were just a morsel of the activities that filled all three floors of the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre for Family Heritage Day in celebration of Family Day February 15.

HunterFULLHundreds of families spent their day taking part in the indoor and outdoor activities, said Museum Program Coordinator Nancy White, who was happy about the great day.

“The kids are having a great time, the parents are happy because the kids are happy, so it’s great, and the sled dogs are new for us so it’s great to have them here,” White said during the festivities.

She added,”there’s just so much going on between crafts, sled dogs, and snowshoeing outside and inside there are the weavers the spinners, lace makers, the model trains, etcetera, it just goes on and on and on.”

For Rawdon Zehr he was happy to go snowshoeing for the first time with grandfather Frank McCurdy.

“It’s my first time, it was a lot of fun going around the (Fairy) lake,” said Zehr who is a seasoned Fairy Lake hiker in the summer.

Snowshoes were donated by Southampton’s Thorncrest Outfitters to promote family activities in the outdoors in Grey and Bruce counties, with owner Janette Thorn helping participants strap in.

“Today is great,” said Thorn, “today’s mild temperatures have been really good, a lot of kids have been having fun, there's a grandpa just out with his grandson going around the lake and the (sled) dogs are certainly a good attraction,” Thorn said.
