Knowledge First Financial Inc. hosted the Port Elgin’s Children’s Festival at North Shore Park on Saturday, August 15th from 11am to 3pm.
The festival included numerous events and entertainers, where children were the main focus of the day. The Fairy Goddess Cordellia (also known as Carol Reichert) of Cordellia's Fairy Tayles told the story of Freida, a local ghost from Ghost Ridge and there was lots of moving, dancing and singing as children interacted with Deb McLaren from Kindermusik with Mrs. Deb.
The Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce's Friends and Neighbours Club put on their musical puppet show, while there was face painting, music from the Red Rascal Band and demonstrations from Stacy Kremer and some of the young members of the Canadian Martial Arts Centre in Port Elgin.
No shortage of food as the Port Elgin & District Lions Club barbecue served up hot dogs and hamburgers and Subway was also on hand. Several vendor stalls, geared to children, were also part of the festival.
Event organizer, Laurie Caloren of Knowledge First Financial spoke about the festival. “I want to make this more of an interactive festival for kids, like the music and the face painting and the story telling, rather than something they just go and stand and watch.” She said she want to make the Children's Festival an annual event at North Shore Park. “This park is the perfect spot, it's beautiful down here.”
