The Port Elgin Curling Club has been chosen to host a Girls Rock event, set to take place on Curling Day in Canada later this month.

The Girls Rock program was developed by Curling Canada, in cooperation with CurlOn and originally funded by Sport Canada, and is designed to introduce girls to the sport of curling and women to leadership roles.

"After piloted success in the communities of Prince George, Thunder Bay, St. John's and Kamloops, The Girls Rock program is ready to rock across Canada," said a February 2 media release from the Port Elgin Curling Club.

On Curling Day in Canada, Saturday, February 24, the Port Elgin Curling Club will provide a day of instruction and fun with a certified instructor for 32 girls between the ages of 9 and 18.

The event is set to run from 10am to 4pm and is free to attend.

"All you need is warm, stretchy clothing, clean shoes, mitts or gloves and a helmet," read the release. "We will provide the curling equipment and lunch."
