Mowbray's Canadian Tire in Port Elgin received a welcome surprise as the Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey Association (SSMHA) made a $600 donation to Canadian Tire's Jumpstart program.

The Canadian Tire charity raises funds to help families cover costs associated with putting their children in sports. Through the corporation's dollar matching program, in 2015 $17,410 was given for local sports in the community, benefitting 78 local children.

SSMHA Treasurer, Sean Fowler, said the money came from funds that minor hockey sets aside for charities such as this. “Jumpstart feeds right back into minor sports in our community, which is what we're all about,” he said.

Eleanor Mowbray said that the money will be dollar matched by the corporation to become $1,200 towards helping local children become involved in local activities, including anything from hockey to dance and can even include Scouts and Brownies.

“We've got kids we've helped four years in a row now,” said Mike Mowbray. “They're in and they're active and living a great lifestyle.”
