Muskoka Language International (MLI) is looking for Port Elgin families to host international students from Japan and Spain, beginning in September, for varying lengths of time. “I need three to four [Port Elgin families],” said Sarah Cook, Grey Bruce Coordinator, MLI Homestay, in an email to The Hub.

A total of 40 international students from the aforementioned Japan and Spain, as well as Germany, are set to arrive in Grey and Bruce counties this fall for a “unique international education program” in partnership with the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB).

MLI is a nation-wide network of families, coordinators and staff and has been actively organizing an ever increasing number of students as part of their international exchange programs for two decades. Grey and Bruce counties were added to their list of possible destinations three years ago.

From an MLI media release, “During their stay, the students will integrate into classes at schools across the region. This program will give students the opportunity to experience living in another country and will allow them to improve their English proficiency.”

In addition to Port Elgin, there are host families from Meaford, Wiarton, Owen Sound, Kincardine, Hanover, Walkerton and Flesherton awaiting the fall arrivals.
