 Winterhawks 560

Hub Staff

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks got their quarterfinal series against the Creemore Coyotes off to a good start with a 6-3 win February 4.

The teams have limited history between them with the Creemore team joining the league in the 2021/22 season. They are making their first appearance in the Sr. "AA" playoffs.

The best of seven series will continue as follows:

Game 2 - Friday, February 10, 8:30pm in Port Elgin
Game 3 - Saturday, February 11, 7:30pm in Creemore
Game 4 - Friday, February 17, 8:30pm in Port Elgin

If necessary:

Game 5 - Saturday, February 18, 7:30pm in Creemore
Game 6 - Sunday, February 19, 5pm in Southampton
Game 7 - Tuesday, February 21, 8pm in Port Elgin

In a recent media release from the Winterhawks, offence shouldn't be hard to come by in the series with both teams being among the league's elite offensive producers, both averaging more than 4.5 goals a game. Saugeen Shores scored 97 goals during the 20 game regular season, while Creemore scored 92.

Offensively, the Winterhawks will be led by their top line of Luke Pither, Miles MacLean and Lauchlin Elder, though a balanced attack saw 10 players produce at a point-per-game pace throughout the season.

Saugeen Shores will be on the look out for an advantage on the defensive side. With a deep blue line and excellent goaltending during the regular season, the team gave up the second fewest goals against, an average of 2.35, with Seaforth holding the top spot for regular season play.

Creemore averaged 4.70 goals against per game, the most goals given up by any of the Sr. "AA" playoff teams.

The remaining three Sr. "AA" quarterfinals are:

(1) Seaforth vs (8) Durham
(2) Ripley vs (7) Petrolia
(4) Minto vs (5) Tavistock

For Winterhawks home games, playoff admission will be $12 per person with season ticket holders receiving playoff admission. The team will also honour any outstanding game passes during the playoffs.

Kids age 10 and under will be admitted for free with an adult ticket purchase.

The seating area at The Plex will be licensed for the consumption of alcohol during the playoffs. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the front lobby or dressing room areas.

Winterhawks games are cash only events. The team operates an ATM, located in the front lobby next to Gord's Pro Shop, and any transaction fees go to support Winterhawks operations.
