The Port Elgin Curling Club's Super Spiel XL has come to a close and a winning team has been declared. In semi final action, Team Smith of Newfoundland defeated Team Howard of Penetanguishene and Team Champ of Waterloo defeated Oakville's Team Willsey.

The Port Elgin Curling Club's Super Spiel XL has come to a close and a winning team has been declared. In semi final action, Team Smith of Newfoundland defeated Team Howard of Penetanguishene and Team Champ of Waterloo defeated Oakville's Team Willsey.

In the final, Champ was victorious over Smith to take home first place of $3,000 as well as collecting important points to qualify for the Ontario Tankard in January 2023.

The 40th annual event hit the Port Elgin club November 17 to 20 following two years of COVID restrictions. All told, 18 teams vied for $14,000 in prizes in Triple Knockout format. Teams hailed from Canada, the US and Japan and included five teams ranked in the top 35 this season in Canada.

"A very successful weekend with outstanding curling. A big thank you to all of the generous sponsors and many volunteers," read a November 20 submission to Saugeen Shores Hub.

The 2023 women's and men's provincial championships, Port Elgin Chrysler '23 Ontario Tankard/Scotties, Presented by Bruce Power, will be held at the Plex in Port Elgin January 23 to 29, 2023.
