The Lamont Sports Park fundraising campaign presented its final report to Saugeen Shores Council September 26.

Illuminating Dreams campaign co-chairs Robert Stanley and Mike Myatt both remarked on the campaign's success.

"I'm just elated," said Stanley, remarking on the campaign surpassing their original goal of $1 million. "By hitting $1,700,000, the Town can build new amenities for this world-class facility," Stanley said.

Initially Saugeen Shores Council had committed to matching $1 million raised with an additional $1.25 million, for the construction of two additional youth diamonds and an accessible playground. In the spring of 2022 Council authorized additional fundraising for two youth batting cages, storage facilities and a 200-seat pavilion.

Campaign Co-Chair and Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt said he can't say enough about the work of the campaign team and said his fellow co-chair and the entire committee all "went far beyond the call of duty as volunteers."

He and Stanley both praised Bruce Power and its suppliers, the Saugeen Shores' business community as well as service clubs and residents.

Charbonneau echoed the co-chairs' sentiments and thanked the committee for their hard work "so we can have a facility that will benefit the Town for years to come."

Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park is set to open in May 2023 with Phase 2 expected to open late 2024 or early 2025.

While the fundraising efforts have officially come to a close, the committee expects a few more donations before month end.
