Representatives from TSN and the Kraft Heinz Project Play were given a tour of the future Lamont Sport Park at 300 Concession 6 in Port Elgin, preceding the presentation of the $250,000 cheque accepted by Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau, Councillor Cheryl Grace and Councillor Jami Smith.

The group reminisced of the incredible energy felt in those final two days and the outstanding community support for the competition.

Matt Bruce, Brand Manager at Kraft Heinz, noted the nearly two million votes that were cast overall in the 48 hour period and Councillor Smith added that her mother alone accounted for 8,000 of those votes.

Bruce explained that the Kraft Heinz Project Play came to life five years ago, evolving out of the Kraft Celebration Tour, and has since awarded $3.2 million to 81 communities nationwide. "Just seeing the communities come together throughout the program is truly great,” confessed Bruce.

Mayor Charbonneau remarked that the community spirit generated from the project was more valuable than the $250,000.

In a Town of Saugeen Shores media release, Charbonneau said, “Our entire community came together to make this happen."

The prize money will be to develop the Lamont Sports Park on a property acquired in 2018. The complex will include ball diamonds, washrooms, accessible trails and more.
