Mayor Luke Charbonneau and members of Saugeen Shores Council are calling on community members to support the Town of Saugeen Shores’ nomination for the Kraft Heinz Project Play program. If successful, the community would be awarded $250,000 to contribute to the development of Lamont Sports Park.

The Town recently acquired land for the development at Lamont Pit, a decommissioned quarry at the south end of Port Elgin. Funds have been allocated for Phase 1 of the sports park project, which will include the construction of multiple sports fields. The proposed park would feature amenities for all ages in addition to sports fields, with discussions underway for new accessible trails and an accessible playground.

“Our objective is to be selected as one of the top four nominations across Canada in the Kraft Heinz Project Play program, which would allow Saugeen Shores to move to the next round for consideration,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau in an August 8 media release. “But we can only achieve this if our residents take part in supporting this exciting initiative online.”

The public is invited to submit their nominations in support of this proposal. Step-by-step instructions on submitting a nomination story are as follows:

Step 1: Visit the Kraft Heinz Project Play website kraftheinzprojectplay.com

Step 2: Click on Find My Facility

Step 3: Select Ontario, type in Lamont Sports Park and click SEARCH

Step 4: Click on SELECT to choose Lamont Sports Park (Saugeen Shores, ON) from the list of results

Step 5: Click on Submit Nomination Story and participants will then be requested to REGISTER

Step 6: Fill out the details, click REGISTER and answer the three questions to nominate Lamont Sports Park

Proposals receive extra points if participants add video and photo attachments on the Community Rally Page so anyone submitting is encouraged to be creative by including a photo of participants playing ball, riding bikes on a trail, enjoying time at a playground, or of a winning ball team.

Nominations can be submitted online until September 22, 2019.
