On the weekend of April 21, the Breakers Swim Team took on the McDonald’s Canadian Record Challenge at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound.

In a Breakers club media release, there were impressive time improvements from the swimmers in finals and with the younger Breakers showing off the work they have been doing with Coach Karen Gill. All participating swimmers achieved personal best times in some of their events.

The team also took part in a fundraiser at Boston Pizza April 5 where team members worked alongside Boston Pizza staff bussing tables and serving food.

The Breakers Swim Team recently competed at the “Dash for Cash” meet at the Victor Davis Complex in Guelph as well as the “Launch into Long Course” meet held at the Markham Pan-Am Complex.

Most swimmers had personal best times and there were several top 8 finishes. Between the two meets there were three Breakers Club records broken.

At the Dash for Cash meet eight swimmers attended and brought home one club record and four top three finishes. The senior boys relay team consisting of Zach McEwen, Jayson Horseman, Cameron McEwen and Liam Fitzgerald set a new club record in the men’s 800 Free Relay.

Evrim Dereli swam personal best times in six events including dropping over 8 seconds in her 100m Breast Stroke. Liam Fitzgerald brought home a 3rd place finish in his 800m Free which was also a best time by over 36 seconds. Jayson Horseman finished 3rd in his 50m Breast Stroke and also took over 17 seconds off his 200m Breast Stroke. Hannah Kent had personal best times in six events which included a drop of over 12 seconds in her 100m Breast Stroke. Cameron McEwen brought home a 3rd place finish in his 100 m Free and a 3rd place in his 50m Breast Stroke. Zachary McEwen had personal best times in seven of his swims which included a drop of almost 4 seconds in his 100m Free. Ryan Morley had a personal best time in his 100m Breast Stroke by almost 5 seconds. Madison Wheeler had a great meet swimming personal best times in six events including a whopping drop of over 19 seconds in her 200m Breast Stroke.

More recently, eight Breakers swimmers attended the Launch into Long Course meet and brought home two club records and four top three finishes.

Braeden Ashton finished 1st in the 50m Free setting a new club record with a time of 25.65 seconds. He also finished 2nd in the 100m Breast Stroke and 3rd in the 50m Breast Stroke. Braeden’s 50m Breast Stroke was also a new club record. Evrim Dereli swam personal best times in eight events including a drop of almost 4 seconds in her 200m Breast Stroke. Jayson Horseman had six new personal best times including a 5.33 second drop in his 100m Breast Stroke. Hannah Kent managed six new personal best times including a 2 second drop in her 200m Free. Brady Phillips had two new personal best times including shaving three seconds off his 100m Free. Rebecca Schropp finished 3rd overall in her 50m Backstroke. She finished the meet with five new best times which included a one minute and 5 seconds cut to her 800m Free. Michelle Wang swam her first ever long course meet gaining new times in nine events. Madison Wheeler swam best times in five events with her 200m Individual Medley dropping by over four seconds.
