Six members of the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLC) competed at the Ontario Senior & Masters Lifesaving Pool Championships March 3 and 4.
In an SSLC submission, the Masters group finished third overall in the province with the club’s lone open competitor, Danielle Sullivan, finishing second overall for women in the province.
In various events, competitors swam under obstacles, and towed and carried manikins. In some events large rescue fins are used, in others they are not. Nearly all of the swimmers’ skills are put to the test in the Super Lifesaver event.
In the Masters group, gold medals and provincial records were set by both Steve Parsons and Sarah Ingleton. Other medals and great swims by Ken Jacobi, Heather Parsons and Kevin Larson.
The next competition for SSLC members is the Pool Nationals in June. The club extends a thank you club coaches and mentors Mike Allain, Michael Hundt; and Shanna Reid; as well as pool friends who offered both support and encouragement.
SSLC member Danielle Sullivan rescued a partially filled manikin in one of her events.
